Reflexology

Reflexology
A reflexology session involves the application of pressure using specific thumb and finger technique, stretching and movement on reflex points located in the feet, hands and ears. The most common area for treatment is the foot. This 5000-year-old therapy is sometimes called zonal therapy as the body is divided into zones with corresponding reflex points located in the hands and feet. By stimulating these points, a message is sent to the spine and the central nervous system and from there a signal is sent to the brain and other organs of the body. Thus, reflexology promotes relaxation, improves circulation, stimulates vital organs and encourages the natural healing process of the body, creating a harmonious working together of the mind, body and soul.

According to the philosophy of reflexology, all the organs, glands and parts of the body have representing reflexes on the feet. Any health problem in the body can usually be detected in the corresponding area of the foot. The left foot generally relates to any organs, glands etc on the left side of the body while the right foot relates to any organs, glands etc on the right side

The reflexologist stimulates more than 14,000 nerve endings when touching both feet and encourages the opening and clearing of neural pathways, so vital oxygen, nutrients and messages can get through to all cells in the body, hence encouraging correct function and homeostasis (balance).

Stimulates the Nervous System – the nerves convey messages from the central nervous system to all parts of the body and through reflexology the nerve endings are stimulated. This encourages the opening of neural pathways allowing messages to travel unimpeded so that all organs and systems of the body may be able to work together effectively.

Detoxifies the body – Reflexology is believed to improve the function of the lymphatic system, detoxifying and cleansing internally, while stimulating the excretory system to rid the body of waste. It also helps the skin to function more efficiently, removing toxins and the build-up of waste.

Balances Energy – When energy flow within the body is impeded the body does not function efficiently. Reflexology helps to unblock energy congestion in energy pathways, returning the body to balance and improving both physical and emotional well-being.
